World Masters Games sports filling up fast!


The 2017 World Masters Games are now less than 150 days away, and spaces are filling up fast in every sport.  So far athletes from 70 countries have signed up to take part in the 2017 WMG, and four sports (archery, football, golf, and softball) have already sold out with others such as hockey with limited places left. 

Don't leave it until the last minute to get your entry in for the squash competition.  Entries officially close on January 31st, but we strongly encourage that if you are thinking about playing make sure you do it before the summer break and end up missing out!

Competition Dates

Squash competition for World Masters Games 2017 (WMG2017) offers individual events for both men and women and a mixed team event. 

The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for the evening of Friday 21 April 2017 at Eden Park with the Closing Ceremony on the evening of Sunday 30 April 2017.

Venue – The venue will be the North Shore Squash Club (Shea Terrace, Takapuna, Auckland)

The events, grades and age categories for Squash at WMG2017 are as follows:

The age category you will compete in for Squash will be determined as at 22 April 2017 (the first day of Squash Competition at the Games). The age of the youngest registered team member determines which age category the team will compete in.

The cut-off date for new team entries (subject to available competition capacity) is 31 January 2017. Additional players may join existing teams up to and including 31 March 2017. Each athlete can only enter to compete in one team. Players who wish to compete in the team event but are not members of an existing team may indicate their availability. Composite teams may be selected by the WMG2017 Squash tournament committee.

Competition Details

Singles Events - Players may only enter in one age category in the Singles competition. To enable grading in the relevant division of the Singles competition, all players shall provide current performances in the relevant section of the registration system.  The WMG2017 Squash Organising Committee reserves the right to regrade entries where considered appropriate.

Teams Event - A mixed team format offering participation in either an Open or Recreational Division in three age group categories.  For each team to be confirmed, a minimum of three athletes need to be registered, with a maximum of five athletes per team.  Each team must include a minimum of one athlete of each gender and the age of the youngest registered team member determines which age category the team will compete in for the Games.  Each athlete can only enter and compete in one team.

Grade Definitions for Singles and Teams - The following grade definitions have been determined for the WMG2017 Squash competition:

  • A Grade - Open: This grade is for players who have competed at an international or national team level and players who have competed in national, provincial/state championships and competitive leagues.
  • B Grade - Recreational: This grade is for those who play in non-competitive leagues and for social and casual players.
