History of the Auckland Open

The Auckland Open is the region's most prestigious district event that has a rich history.  The Men's T. Child Trophy was first competed for in 1962, with the Ladies Roy Mitchell Trophy added three years later in 1965.  The tournament regularly attracts top quality fields and has been won by many National and World Champions throughout the years.  Current Men’s World #5 Paul Coll won the title in 2014 while current Women’s World #6 Joelle King won the Women’s in 2010.

The 2022 tournament was held at the North Shore Squash Club who will play host again in 2022 after an incredibly successful event that saw over 200 players competing.

History of the Oceania Open

The inaugural Oceania Mens Open was held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea in conjunction with the Trukai Squash International in July 2004, attracting male players from Australia, Bermuda, France, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, and the Netherlands.   A Womens Open event and graded events were held in conjunction with this event.  It was an outstanding success and seen as a further step in development of an international tournament circuit in the Region.

The 2nd Oceania Open was held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea in conjunction with the “Steel Industries Squash International” in August 2005, attracting players from Australia, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.  Again, an outstanding success for Papua New Guinea.  Local championships were held alongside the “International” which attracted 192 entries in total.

After a long hiatus the Oceania Squash Federation is pleased to see the return of the tournament in conjunction with the Auckland Open.
