History of the Oceania Open
The inaugural Oceania Mens Open was held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea in conjunction with the Trukai Squash International in July 2004, attracting male players from Australia, Bermuda, France, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, and the Netherlands. A Womens Open event and graded events were held in conjunction with this event. It was an outstanding success and seen as a further step in development of an international tournament circuit in the Region.
The 2nd Oceania Open was held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea in conjunction with the “Steel Industries Squash International” in August 2005, attracting players from Australia, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Again, an outstanding success for Papua New Guinea. Local championships were held alongside the “International” which attracted 192 entries in total.
After a long hiatus the Oceania Squash Federation is pleased to see the return of the tournament in conjunction with the Auckland Open.
