2018 Tournament Calendar is here!

The National Tournament Calendar for 2018 has just been released.  It's a bumper year for the Auckland region as we play host to the NZ Doubles Champs at the National Squash Centre, Senior Nationals at Henderson and Panmure, and Junior Nationals at North Shore.  There will also be two PSA events at SquashXL, and the Auckland Open at Remuera in early March will also be a WSF Closed Satellite event meaning the countries' top up-and-coming players can earn world ranking points.  Of course this will still be open to players of all ages and grades.

The season kicks off with the North Shore Waitangi Singles/Doubles from February 1-3, and runs through with tournaments nearly every weekend until the Silverdale B on December 7-9.  Other highlights on the calendar include the Auckland Junior Open, which will be held at SquashXL in parallel with a Women's PSA draw at the same venue, and the Auckland Regional Superchamps which will be held the week of 6-12 August.

There is also a weekend available for clubs to hold their Club Champs from 24-26 August, and the winners in each grade at their club can go forward to the Auckland Graded Champs on 7-9 September to aim to become the Auckland champion in their grade.

You can view the Tournament Calendar on the link below, and for those who like a hard-copy, printed pocket calendars will be distributed to your club for you to collect over the next few weeks.

This is also a good time to remind everyone of what is expected of ALL players when entering a tournament.  Please take the time to read the tournament etiquette guidelines below so our tournaments can be an enjoyable experience for all involved.

Squash Auckland Tournament Etiquette guidelines
Organising a tournament is a difficult task at the best of times, so all players, parents, supporters, and tournament organisers need to play their part for an event to be successful and enjoyable for all.

With this in mind, Squash Auckland has released a set of Tournament Etiquette guidelines to help everyone involved understand what is expected of them.  For players, this includes;

  • Stating all times you are unavailable to play during a tournament when you enter, and understanding any changes made after this point are at the discretion of your opponent and tournament organisers
  • Understanding withdrawing from a tournament after the draws are done is a massive burden on tournament organisers
  • Ensuring you arrive on time for your match and mark a match following your own - without exception

For tournament organisers, this includes;

  • Using discretion carefully when dealing with player withdrawals - injuries and emergencies do happen
  • Ensure all tournament conditions and dates are clearly stated on tournament posters and in iSquash
  • Ensure draws are released in a timely manner before the start of the tournament
  • Whenever possible, have players mark/refereeing players of their own grade & gender

If we all play our part when participating in a tournament, the better our events are and the more people we will have playing.
